5. Demand that Washington Pass the FairTax

The most important people you can tell about The FairTax are your legislators in Washington and the Chairman
of the House Ways and Means Committee (where the FairTax Bill is currently stalled).
Politicians know that most of their constituents will not take the time to contact them,
so that each letter and call actually represents dozens, or even hundreds, of voters with the same views.
Your effort counts, literally ... They track the number of voter comments.
You have lots of options: you can mail a prepared postcard, drop them a
quick email, fax a note, visit their offices, or call. But hand-written, personal letters are always the most
influential.
Want some help writing your letter? Visit the Writers Room for tips and
samples. We even have a forum to ask others' opinions.
Here are some tips when calling:
- Ask for the Legislative Assistant in charge of tax issues.
- Ask them to make a "written record" of your call.
(If they ask you email your message instead, tell them you can't and ask them take down your information.)
- Tell them you are one of their constituents.
- Tell them you are a supporter of the FairTax Bill (HR 25 / S 296).
- Tell them you want your legislator to cosponsor, support, and promote the FairTax Bill.
- Ask them to sign a Congressional FairTax Pledge.
