Use a VAT to reduce IRS abuse

Note: The U.S. effectively has a virtual VAT in operation now.  It consists of the embedded taxes in everything bought at retail.  These embedded taxes are made up of the accumulated income, Social Security, and Medicare taxes on labor to manufacture a product or perform a service, and the tax compliance costs to do business in this country.  A VAT would only add another level of reporting (filling out forms) and the associated bureaucracy to police the system and the tax would be further hidden from the view of the consumer.  Keep that in mind as you read this article. --- CPB, alfairtax.org

Americans desperately want a fairer tax system and relief from arbitrary treatment by the IRS. True reform requires simply junking the personal and corporate incomes in favor of a consumption tax.

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp, R-Mich., estimates tax filing, record-keeping and the like amount to $168 billion a year - a terrible waste exceeding 10 percent of the taxes collected.

Much of the personal information revealed is a terrible invasion of privacy, and the constant fear the IRS will audit taxpayers for their political activities is outright tyranny.
